African based internships

All Zambia-based positions are full time. Time commitment ranges from four weeks to six months depending on the position. Interns will work 40 hours a week. This is an unpaid internship and college credit is offered. We encourage interns to fundraise for their internship both prior to and during their time in Uganda.  Sole  Hope will cover housing.  You will be responsible for all other costs incurred during the internship that include but are not limited to: travel costs, food and entertainment.

Videography Internship
Duration: Minimum one month commitment
 
As a Sole Hope videography intern you will spend an estimated four to six weeks abroad documenting the culture and people of Zambia, the Sole Hope community and the creation of Sole Hope products. Most importantly, you will be creating multi-media content to connect consumers to the women who make their products. With your video camera, you’ll communicate the hope, success and change we are experiencing in the Sole Hope community. Your video will accompany profiles of the Sole Hope men, women and children as well as documenting day-to-day life in Zambia. Your primary goal will be to produce a short film (three minutes) on Sole Hope and the men, women and children behind it that will be used to promote Sole Hope at events and in media across the globe. You will need to bring your own range of standard camera and lighting equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direction over Sole Hope multi-media projects
  • Create a short film on Sole Hope operations in Zambia
  • Edit existing video and media
  • Create a positive and accurate image of Sole Hope      
  • Create a weekly video installment for the Sole Hope blog

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with video production, including set-up, composition, post-production and publishing.
  • Familiarity with Final Cut Pro
  • Experience working in an international setting
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Skilled at multitasking and achieving deadlines
  • Works well under pressure
  • Able to work effectively with limited supervision
  • Flexibility and willingness to live, work and engage in a developing economy
  • Adaptable to frequent changes and limitations

Photography Internship
Duration: Minimum one month commitment

As a Sole Hope photographer you will spend an estimated four to six weeks abroad documenting the culture and people of Zambia and more specifically the Sole Hope community and the creation of Sole Hope shoes. Most importantly, you will be visually connecting consumers to the men and women who make Sole Hope shoes. With your camera, you’ll communicate the hope, success and change we are all experiencing in the Sole Hope community. Your photos will accompany profiles of the Sole Hope men and women as well as documenting day-to-day life in Zambia. From portraits and landscapes to candid and fashion shots, we are looking for photographers that are consistent with the overall aesthetic and design of Sole Hope. You will also work with Sole Hope Directors to create visual elements for new marketing campaigns for upcoming product lines. Your photos will be featured in media placements throughout 2011. You will need to bring your own range of standard camera equipment.
 
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create a positive and accurate image of Sole Hope
  • Creatively and artistically document Sole Hope daily operations in Zambia
  • Work alongside the Sole Hope directors to create marketing campaigns

  • Experience in styling is a plus, but not necessary

Product Design Internship

Duration: three months

Design interns will be based in Zambia. Design interns will spend their time researching and designing all things shoe, mentoring Sole Hope shoe sewers, and working with the Sole Hope directors to create new marketing campaigns for upcoming products. We are looking for fashion mavericks that can follow designs through set up, pattern, sewing, production scaling and merchandising and packaging presentation. MUST be a creative DIYer who thrives in the challenge of creating beautiful, unique products with limited resources and raw material.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determine availability materials for producing new/ developing existing products
  • Work to create new types of easy to make shoes
  • Design new product lines and production systems
  • For all new products created during internship – create a thorough step-by-step production manual for each product
  • Teach Sole Hope team members how to create all facets of the new product lines
  • Create and implement systems for quality control management
  • Work closely with the Sole Hope Directors to maintain high quality production, efficiency, innovation and market relevance
  • Work with the Communications team to develop relevant, on-target marketing content
  • Contribute to a work environment of dignity, honor and empowerment while having a blast!
  • Love on and learn from incredible men and women in Zambia

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • A degree and /or experience in the fashion industry
  • Proficient in sewing, pattern-making and creating proto-types
  • Experience working in an international setting
